One Year

Written on your first birthday- June 29th 2008

Dear Lilianna,

One year ago, you were tiny in my hands. Today your personality is bigger than the room. One year ago, your bed was an isolette in the NICU. Tonight you are home and warm in your crib. You are so truly a miracle, my precious baby girl.

Lily, you are the girl of my dreams! In fact, you are better! I love your spunk, your smile, your voice and your laugh. You light up the room with your sweet expressions! You are the BEST baby. You hardly ever fuss, you feed yourself and you are so STINKIN CUTE! You are SO amazing, so unique and so beautiful. I wake up every day and look forward to opening your door to look at your happy face. You always have a smile for me and you always smile back anytime someone smiles at you!

For such a little one, you have a big girl laugh that we adore. It makes us all laugh in return. Daddy says it’s like you explode with laughter because you can’t hold it in anymore. It’s a big hearty chuckle and a squeal at the same time and it’s the cutest laugh ever. You don’t look like the rest of us, it is somewhat of a phenomenon! We joke that even if you are not ours, we’re keeping you because we love you so much! But Daddy assures me that you are the same baby that came from my womb because he followed you from delivery to the NICU and made sure your wrist bracelets were labeled correctly! You have light creamy skin and fine strawberry blonde hair. We thought your hair and skin would darken up, but you are still our fair little blondie. We love your fluffy chickie hair. You are so gorgeous! You have sweet pouty rosebud lips that are so expressive! When you are upset, your bottom lip is big and out there. It’s so cute! When you are happy you love to make kissy faces! And you have sweet big brown eyes and long eye lashes to match!

You are so expressive and so smart already! You love your brother, you give him kisses and you said his name the other day. It was only once, but it was so clear and loud! Isaiah is not an easy name to say! You are constantly watching him and trying to copy him. He makes you laugh like no other. You are also Daddy’s little girl. Every day he comes home, once he walks in the door you are yelling DADADADA in your cute excited little voice. You crawl toward the door slapping the floor loudly with your hands as you go! We love the sounds you make, our little bird! Your babble is so sweet and innocent. You know exactly what you are saying!

Your favorite song is Happy Birthday! It makes you smile and giggle every time! We sing it to you a lot and it makes you do the scrunchy face laugh where you laugh with such glee, your whole face scrunches up! One of your favorite things to do is dance! You are so cute, bouncing up and down and smiling so big, your thunder thighs jumping like jello! We love you and all your chub! You love music and getting your groove on! You also love going to the beach! You LOVE the sand, you love to play with it, touch it and eat it! The last few times we went, you kept sticking your whole face in the sand!

LIL, you have so many nicknames! We call you “Sticky Foot” because the bottom of your feet are always sticky like scotch tape! We call you Buddhette, because you are so round like Buddha. You have the rolliest chubbiest thunder thighs! We call you “Softie” because you are so soft and sweet. Sometimes Isaiah calls you “Little Fella” because he heard Dory say that on Finding Nemo.

You are sugar, AND spice. You can be feisty sometimes! One time Isaiah was picking on you, he stepped on your hand and you got mad, let out a little mean shriek and BIT HIS ANKLE! It took everything in me not to laugh! You’re on tough gal and you have been since the beginning. In fact, your favorite things to play with are dinosaurs and cars. When you play with dinosaurs, you ROAR and GROWL just like Isaiah does! It’s so funny! You like crashing cars into each other. I wonder where you picked that up from? You are one determined little one. You like to “draw” on the dry erase board when Isaiah does it, so I give you a capped marker. You stand up there, barely reaching the board with your marker and you “draw” with such concentration, that you make this proud little sound “HHHHHEhhhhhhhh” and look at me to make sure I am watching you. You are such a big girl in a baby’s body!

My Lily girl. You’ve got so much personality! A tough little girl that is beautiful, funny and smart! You are no delicate little princess and I love that about you.

I wonder what kind of girl you will be… will you be a tomboy? A girly girl? A drama queen? Maybe a combination of the three? Who knows what the future holds… as much as I look forward to it, your first year went too fast. If I only had a time machine to go back and relive all these days again… I would… twice!

I love you my LIL!
