Playdoh and the office
You ask us to “draw” (that’s what you call it) dinosaurs and elephants every time. You like to choose the color and say, “A BIG ONE” or “a little one”. Your voice is so theatrical, that you make a big voice and a little voice when you ask. Sometimes you ask us to make really difficult things like a helicopter! We like to stick to animals! You can play for hours. One time we went for over 2 hours and you sat in your booster chair the whole time, completely entertained. We especially love to play with you because we get to see what a great imagination you have! It’s so cute, you have the animals talking to each other and going on “missions” (like the Little Einsteins of course).
One time, your animals had a pizza party and they all shared pizza. You like to make sure they all eat, with sound effects and everything. Today your animals had a birthday party with a cake and candles and everything. We sang “happy birthday dear dinosaurs, and elephants and penguins…” and you helped them blow out the candles. After the “party” you had your penguins sliding on their bellies, and then it was time to go in the space ship (which was the play-doh container).
Isaiah sings Happy Birthday to his animals.
The hardest part about our play-doh parties is putting it away. You cry almost every time. Real tears. You beg to play more, but today it was past your naptime and we had to put it away. You can’t bear to see us mush up your animals. We sang them happy birthday one more time and took pictures of them. You told them to smile! We told you we would see them again, and to say goodbye. You were all teary when you said “Bye animals, see you next time.” Daddy took you upstairs to get your ready for naptime, and you gave me a kiss and said, “Thank you for pwaying pway-doh Mommy.”
You’re so sweet and imaginative. You’re so innocent and so much fun. I’m not going to lie, and say that being two is easy on me, you or your Daddy, but I LOVE this time with you. You are discovering so many things and becoming a little boy, yet you’re still a baby in so many ways. You still need us and want us for every part of your life.
Yesterday we went out to meet Daddy at work to take him to lunch. It is a far drive, an hour away- but your Daddy is so proud to show you off to your co-workers, it makes him a very happy man when we go for a visit. You insisted on wearing your red cowboy hat and so I let you wear your cowboy boots too. You were so proud of it, you wanted to wear it in the car, but it’s so big you couldn’t sit comfortably with it on. We were at the office for ½ hour before we left for lunch and you showed EVERYONE your hat and boots. You didn’t your hat off once. You kept pointing to Daddy and telling people, “That’s my Daddy.” You made him the happiest father at the office. You also told every one about the baby in Mommy’s belly. “It’s a girl, yeah. Baby sister.” And tried to lift up my dress to show people my belly. We had lunch together and had to be on our way home. You wanted Daddy to sit next to you in the car. When we got to the office you wanted to go with Daddy. You were so sad you cried in the car on the way home. This morning you woke up and started talking about going to see Daddy at the office. You told me, “I had fun at the office Mommy. I miss Daddy.” It’s amazing how much you love your Daddy. But guess what Isaiah, he loves you even more.
