Who is that eggplant standing next to my husband?
Okay, Dave posted that picture of us at the Christmas party. I totally look like a huge eggplant! And can you see my swollen legs and feet? Sexy, huh? So, I was comparing our Christmas photo from last year to this year, and it is seriously depressing. It’s so funny because I thought I was so fat last year. Now I only WISH I was as fat as I was last year! I’m such a blimp! I hadn’t looked at a picture of my former self for awhile so it was quite a rude awakening! I can’t believe that my boobs once stuck out more than my stomach did! And that’s what I looked like when I had a waist! And my face looks absolutely huge compared to last year! Am I retaining water there too? Okay, don’t go looking too closely at that picture now.
Everyone’s telling me I have dropped! Oh no, they all think I am going to give birth early! NOOOO! Not until our house is done! I am keeping Peanut in until we close escrow! I’m bound and determined!
The funniest reactions are the ones I get from strangers. I was at the bank in line today, some lady started to walk past me, took a double take, stopped, and then said, “oh…. WOW!”, then she moved on. I’m not sure if that was a compliment, or an insult, but it was interesting. Earlier today one of the vendors who comes into work seriously asked me if I was pregnant. I started laughing. I guess he was one of those people who made the mistake of calling someone who wasn’t pregnant, pregnant. What could be worse?
I will certainly miss the positive attention I get. I won’t lie about that! I will miss all the compliments.
More fun pain. So, I have experienced a new kind of pain altogether lately…pain in my pelvis (both sides) and inner thigh. At first it was just uncomfortable, and I figured it was normal prego stuff- loosening of the ligaments in preparation for childbirth. But then it started to get really bad. Sharp shooting pains. Pain that makes me stop whatever I am doing until it goes away. So being the net savvy woman that I am, I have looked up my symptoms on the internet and according to my extensive and professional research, I have Symphysis Pubis Disfunction or SPD. Basically what happens is your body releases a hormone called relaxin in pregnancy to help loosen up the joints in your pelvis and hips. Well in about 1 in 36 women, the relaxin loosens your pelvic cartilage and joints too much, causing them to stretch and open. This causes lots o’ pain and possibly complications during labor. We shall see what the doc says on Thursday.
All that being said, and as much as I can’t wait to get my body back (or some semblance of my former self), I love being pregnant. It is unlike any other feeling in the world. It’s hard to describe the joy I feel carrying our baby inside of me, a miracle so purely conceived out of love. I cherish the feeling that two hearts beat within me, and that I am never alone. Wherever I go, Peanut is with me…and for this short time in his/her life I have him/her all to myself!
